Nor(DEV):Con 2020 Highlights

NorDev

We’ve just returned from an extremely busy and hugely worthwhile couple of days at nor(DEV):Con. This year’s event was a great success thanks to the hard work from the nor(DEV):Con team, volunteers and speakers.

nor(DEV):Con is the largest tech conference in the Eastern Region and IJYI were once again Elite sponsors. The speaker line-up was fantastic this year and covered everything from Developer experience and “Humaning” in tech to handling change and dealing with impostor syndrome.

This year we decided to bring along a VR Formula 1 racing challenge which certainly proved entertaining! Congratulations to our lucky winner James Rogers of Safepoint who ended the day at the top of the leaderboard and won an Xbox for his troubles!

This year we were lucky to have the opportunity to interview some of the speakers. Take a look a our videos with the four Keynote speakers below. More videos from nor(DEV):Con are live on our YouTube channel.

Karen Poulter, Head of ISD at Hutchison Ports gave a truly inspiring opening keynote on the second day of the conference. She shared with us her inspiring journey into tech and spoke about resilience, change and leading through it.

We were delighted to speak to Chris O’Dell from Monzo Bank about using UX research and DevOps to improve developer experiences.

Dr Gail Ollis took some time out to chat to us after her closing keynote on “Humanising”. When Gail says Humanising she is talking about what have traditionally been described as “soft skills”, which are often actually the hardest to learn! A fascinating topic.

We were delighted to catch up with Jennifer Wadella just before her closing keynote. Jennifer’s inspiring keynote looked at the fear of trying, how it holds us back and how we can overcome it.
